Sunday Word.
Philippians 3: 12-16
May we forget what is behind us, both the good and bad. For remembering what we have done taints our looking at what lies ahead. We must forget what we have given. We must never expect anything because of what we have done in the past, what we have given in the past. We must never ask for power or position. We must never remember anything we have done that would cause us to think we deserve praise. For as we forget that which lies behind us, we can walk humbly with God, press on toward a glorious hope, & know we have done nothing that can change the sovereignty of God. For we know that all we have to boast in outside of Him is foolishness. Our efforts. Our generosity. Our titles. Our good acts. He is all we should remember. He is the reason we press on toward the goal.
May we not spread the word about ourselves, but instead let others do the talking. In this discipline we will find humility and lose pride. We will take deep root and grow in spiritual maturity. May we take deep root. Oh my God, grant us the grace to take deep root.
Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
